Gaza in the Heart of Jaffa - demo, Sat. Jan 31 Saturday, Jan 31st, at 15:00, in Gan Hashnaim (Yefet st. corner of Dr. Erlich) In the course of three weeks, Israel has bombarded and destroyed the streets of Gaza, leaving blood baths behind. The ‘lords of war’ rejoiced in another battle, blinding the public’s eye to the intensity of the havoc they caused. They explained that this is a justified and unavoidable war. A war that is to defend the people of the south. And in Israel there is no justice and no judgment. The last round of violence has reached an end, but what has changed? · The siege on Gaza continues · The occupation continues · And the end to the conflict seems further away than ever The only thing that has changed is: over 1,400 deaths, of which 410 children and 104 women, and over 5,320 injured that have joined the ranks of the conflict’s victims. And Israel has proved, yet again, its destructive power. As long as Israel continues to oppress the Palestinian people, we will continue to pay the price. The police, the security services and the media – attempted to suppress the protests, to arrest activists and to silence the resistance. We must continue our struggle without letting the police violence silence us, until – We lift the siege and open the Gaza crossings We end the occupation We bring to justice the ‘lords of war’, planners and executers, for war crimes On Saturday, January 31st 2009, at 15:00, we will hold a protest event in Gan Hashnaim (Yefet st. corner of Dr. Erlich), with projections of testimonies from Gaza, art installations and performances. This park has been the stage, during the war, upon which protest voices of Jews and Arabs could be heard. In the past, taxis from Gaza could reach this park, symbolizing the strong tie that exists between Gaza and Jaffa. 75% of Gaza’s population is composed of refugees that have been expelled from their homes and lands in 1948, among which thousands of Jaffa residents. At this event we return the park its name – Gaza Park – in memory of the victims of the aggression, and in the name of a joint future. |
